|Elias Garcia Martinez- Fresco in Borja, Spain|
Aragon, north-eastern Spain.
A previously little regarded painting has become a tourist attraction in the small Spanish town of Borja. Since it was placed in the 'Misericordia Church' in 1930 the fresco has suffered the pains of time. So a caring parishioner Cecilia Gimenez an eighty year old grandmother decided to make good the signs of age.
It wasn't a tremendous success so it is that despite the horror caused by her work that thousands of people now want to see the result bringing with it a boost to the local economy.
The painting, depicts Christ with a crown of thorns before crucifixion, in a style known as "Ecce Homo" (Behold the Man) was rarely seen by anyone other than the church congregation.
