The local people decorate poles with ribbons, paper chains and flowers and place Them in some of The streets of The village, The local people sing typical songs of Saint John and local fandangos and Dance round The poles. These poles are called "pirulitos" and The Festival is also celebrated in oTher places in The province. A Festival with pagan roots related to paying homage to natural forces and The fertility of The land, The sun and moon. The Festival coincides with midsummer's night.

Fiesta all day and party all night for the longest day of the year in Barcelona.
Bonfires on the beaches, fireworks throughout the city and generally one big party. The custom is to drink lots of Cava and eat a traditional cake like 'coca de St Joan'  a dry cake with candied fruit of various kinds on top.
