Great fun and frolics for all the family from 25th February until 7th March in Vinaros one of the best carnivals in Spain.
Parades, correfocs (groups dressed as devils lighting fireworks), competitions and celebrations. Carnival takes place just before Lent and, during these celebrations, people let their imagination run wild. In VinarÚs, they choose Queens and their King, Carnestoltes, who is the star of the celebration. This representative figure arrives on 25th February, at 11.30 p.m., in a huge act that takes place before the popular devils' ball or Ball de Dimonis de VinarÚs.
The presentation of the Queens will take place on 7.30 p.m. the following day and, just a few hours later, this formal event will give way to a night of music and fun thanks to VinarÚs Band i Venen.
The Great Flour Battle takes place in a marquee located by the Avenida del AtlŠntico boulevard on 28th February. That same day, you can also enjoy the Carnival 'Batucada' or drum ensemble.
The following weekend, on 5th March, the Carnival organisers have scheduled the Grand Sambadrome, a spectacle of light and sound led by Djordee and DJ Joan, and on 6th March, the second Great Carnival Procession 2011 will be taking place. The celebrations culminate with the 'Velatorio del Carnestoltes' (literally, a wake for the meat given up for Lent) in the square known as the Plaza Parroquial.
.. .But there's even more: in the province of Valencia, in Villar del Arzobispo to be exact, the famous Carnival will be taking place on 3rd March, with all the eye-catching colour that characterises this town.
In Pego (Alicante) they have to wait until 5th March to fill this town with incredible characters. That same evening, they will be celebrating their Carnival, and the next weekend, the Pinyata or Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine) takes
