The Almeria Fair
17th to 26th August
Almería also has an important fair, like all the provinces of Andalusia. For the ten days of its grand fiesta, Almería residents and all those who want to spend these days in the best of atmospheres, give themselves over completely to enjoyment: to laugh, eat, drink and have a good time surrounded by family and friends is the main objective.

It is celebrated in honour of the Virgen del Mar, patron saint of the city, and has been designated Fiesta of International Tourist Interest. Floral offerings in honour of the Virgin combine with fiesta in the city streets, flamenco music and bullfighting during the day. The Almería Fair takes place in the second half of August and you can enjoy it with two different atmospheres that share one common goal: fun and enjoyment. On one side, you can experience the daytime fair in the streets of the city centre, while on the other you can continue the enjoyment by night at the "Real" fair ground, the perfect place to have a good time, with a range of attractions, stalls and marquees.

If you come to Almería at this time of year, you can come to the last Saturday of the fair, the day of the Virgen del Mar, when a great floral offering is made to the city´s patron saint. It is a public holiday and there is also a "rociera" mass.Typical costumes, a variety of tapas, music, flamenco shows, bullfights? come and discover a very different Almería!

How to get to the Real de la Feria ground?

To get to the scene of the fair by night, on these days there are special city bus services that stop right at the fair ground. They usually run into the early hours and depart from the city centre. Departures are from the Compañía de María and Paseo de Almería stops. The journey will cost you no more than €1.
DELICIOUS
Besides Almería´s artistic attractions, it also has excellent local gastronomy that you can savour in any of its bars and restaurants.

Fried fish, seafood and “migas” (fried breadcrumb dish) are Almería´s star tapas. We would suggest a visit to the Puerta de Purchena area, the most representative part of the city if you want to enjoy typical cuisine: local tapas, not forgetting the delicious grilled cuttlefish.

Tapas are what most sets this city apart. In many bars and restaurants you can find the so-called “chericans”, slices of toasted bread with garlic mayonnaise, topped with all kinds of different ingredients. For those with a sweet tooth, special mention should be made of “roscos” (like doughnuts), cream buns, puff pastries and homemade jams.
