Festival of Medieval Theatre in Hita
Along with representations of medieval plays there are also processions and popular dances.

Halfway through the afternoon, the Festival begins, with the 'Botargas' and 'Danzantes de la Somosierra' that act for the town accompanied by pipers and 'dulzainas' (instrument similar to a clarinet). There are medieval lunch and dinners on the hill. Tournaments and running of the bulls in the Palenque. At dusk, there is a scenic display of Medieval themes (Buen amor, Corbacho, Celestina, etc). Procession of the Brotherhoods of Don Carnal and Doņa Cuaresma triumph of Don Amor. Carnival procession. Popular dance. Some years there is Archery. Falconry and Medieval Dances.

Medieval Theatre Festival
The Hita Medieval Theatre Festival was declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest (11/02/1986) and of National Tourist Interest. Attending this festival offers a unique opportunity to see the "botargas" or characters that appear in the different festivities of Guadalajara province.

The main event of the Hita Medieval Theatre Festivalis a theatrical performance that takes place at nightfall in the Plaza Mayor. Another outstanding event is the Medieval Tournament that is held in the Palenque de la Villa, where the horsemen compete, displaying their skills with lances, canes, rings and jousting exercises.

The ambience, the street performances, the period costumes, the street market, the music, the dinner and the communal teas complete a festive and cultural day in which jugglers, jokers, knights, witches, romances, acrobats, etc. all play their part.

This festival does not just transform the day to day space. It is a temporal transformation, which tells of something special, and playful, in which the visitor is transported into the past, and the recreations, which obviously require a lot of effort, are ephemeral, as it barely lasts a single day.

Dates
It is normally held on the first or second Saturday in July.
Area
Regional Tourist Interest and National Tourist Interest.
