Dungeon Crawler Carl Series Gains Momentum with New Showrunners

The upcoming Dungeon Crawler Carl TV series, based on Matt Dinniman's popular LitRPG novels, has appointed Chris Yost and Eric Heisserer as co-showrunners. The series was confirmed for Peacock earlier this year, and this marks a significant development in its production.

Chris Yost’s Extensive Experience

Yost, previously attached as a writer, brings a wealth of experience from projects like Star Wars and Marvel. He served as a writer and consultant on The Mandalorian (rated 8/10 by IGN) and co-wrote Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. He also previously held the showrunner role for Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Paramount+.

Eric Heisserer’s Sci-Fi Credentials

Heisserer, known for his work as showrunner, creator, and producer of Netflix’s Shadow and Bone, further strengthens the series’ sci-fi credentials. He is also recognized for adapting Ted Chiang’s novella into Denis Villeneuve’s critically acclaimed film Arrival.

Jeff Hays, the narrator of the original audiobooks, will reprise his role as the voice of Princess Donut, a decision praised by Dinniman for maintaining the character’s established sound. The series benefits from the ongoing popularity of the Dungeon Crawler Carl books, with two books remaining in the series and a tabletop RPG slated for release in December. Peacock recently announced its fourth price increase in four years, coinciding with the addition of YouTube Premium for subscribers in early 2027.
