Eidos-montréal lays off 124 amid studio head anfossi's exit
Video game developer Eidos-Montréal is cutting 124 jobs from its production and support teams, the company announced today. This significant reduction in staff comes alongside the departure of long-time studio head David Anfossi, who spent 19 years at the studio.

Change of direction needed
Eidos-Montréal cited 'changing project needs' as the reason for the layoffs, stating that it needs to 'adapt and concentrate efforts where Eidos-Montréal can be most effective.' The affected employees, the studio emphasized, are being let go due to no fault of their own and will receive support 'with care and respect'. Anfossi's exit, meanwhile, has not been explicitly tied to any particular reason, with the company simply thanking him for his 'contributions' and wishing him well in his future endeavors.
This marks the latest round of layoffs at Eidos-Montréal, following a 75-person cut at the start of the year. The studio's output has also been impacted, with a new Deus Ex game reportedly cancelled in early 2024.
Eidos-Montréal's layoffs join a growing list of job cuts across the gaming industry, with other studios like Battlefield, Crystal Dynamics, Ubisoft, and Epic Games also announcing reductions in their workforces in recent weeks.
