Andy serkis confirms aragorn won't be recast with viggo mortensen

Andy Serkis, director of the upcoming Lord of the Rings film The Hunt for Gollum, has confirmed that Aragorn will not be played by Viggo Mortensen in the new movie.

New casting call for aragorn role

Speaking in a recent interview with ScreenRant, Serkis revealed that the team is currently searching for a new actor to take on the role, with no plans to bring back Mortensen. 'There's been a lot of speculation about this, but I know we're looking for someone else and we're in the process of finding that person,' Serkis stated.

This news comes as no surprise, given Mortensen's firm stance on not participating in any Middle-earth productions where he doesn't have a major role to play, such as in The Hobbit. And with the actor set to turn 68 this year, it would be challenging for him to actively star in an action-packed film like The Hunt for Gollum.

As Aragorn's storyline in The Hunt for Gollum takes place during the same period as The Fellowship of the Ring, it's crucial to cast an actor who can convincingly portray the character at a younger age. The fact that Andy Serkis mentioned the possibility of casting Kate Winslet, rumored to play Aragorn's mother Gilraen, further supports the need for a fresh face in the role.
