Battlefield 6's nightfall mode shines a light on tactical darkness
battlefield 6's tumultuous year shows no signs of abating, but developer Ripple Effect's latest effort, Nightfall, aims to inject some much-needed excitement into the game.
Nightfall brings tactical darkness to battlefield 6
Just two months into 2026, battlefield 6 has had a rough ride. A disappointing end to Season 1 was followed by a delay to Season 2, and the loss of series lead Vince Zampella hasn't helped matters. But the Battlefield team is pressing on, and the latest update brings a long-requested night mode to the table.
Called Nightfall, this limited-time mode sets the upcoming Hagental Base map in a subterranean, dark environment that's perfect for close-quarters combat. Imagine an Operation Metro-style map, but with added darkness that brings new tactics to the forefront.

Wiebe believes Nightfall will encourage players to experiment with different weapons and attachments, like flashlights, which might not have been essential in well-lit maps but become crucial in the dark. It's also a chance for players to refine their tactics and learn new strategies in elimination-based modes like Gauntlet.
While Nightfall is a limited-time experience, it's a test of the community's reaction to night maps. If it proves popular, it could pave the way for more night modes in the future.
Despite the delay and some lingering issues, the Battlefield team remains committed to listening to feedback and making improvements. As Ripple Effect's Justin Wiebe puts it,
