Bizum pay: spain's instant payment service expands to physical stores

Bizum, Spain's leading person-to-person payment service, is gearing up to launch a new mobile payment solution called Bizum Pay that will allow users to make in-store purchases with their smartphones.

New service mimics apple pay, google pay experience

Starting in May, the more than 30 million Bizum users in Spain will be able to pay for goods and services at physical stores using their mobile devices, without needing to carry their credit or debit cards. The payment process is expected to be seamless and similar to using Apple Pay or Google Pay, requiring only a quick terminal scan and confirmation.

Bizum Pay will utilize NFC technology, already present in most modern smartphones, to facilitate transactions. The service will be available for both Android and iOS devices, as long as users download the Bizum Pay app in the coming weeks. Some banks may also integrate the service directly into their own mobile apps.

Benefits for merchants and consumers

For consumers, Bizum Pay offers another convenient payment option, joining the likes of traditional credit and debit cards, bank transfers, and digital wallets. Merchants, on the other hand, will benefit from the instant payment processing, with funds appearing in their accounts immediately, unlike with Visa or Mastercard.
