Call of Duty Social Media Post Sparks AI Generation Concerns
Call of Duty’s social media team inadvertently shared an internal marketing image for Modern Warfare 4, leading fans to suspect it was created using artificial intelligence.
Image Shows Warped Gun Details
An image posted to the Call of Duty Twitter account depicted a soldier walking toward the camera while promoting the game’s appearance at Gamescom. Fans noticed the soldier’s gun appeared distorted, suggesting potential AI generation.

Post Removed, Explanation Offered
The image was quickly taken down, and a Call of Duty representative stated it was a mistake – a temporary render from a marketing style guide, not sourced from in-game assets.
Activision’s Past Use of AI
Activision has previously acknowledged using AI tools to generate assets for Call of Duty, including for Black Ops 7. A Steam page disclosure confirms the use of generative AI for elements like calling cards.
Fan Reaction and Skepticism
Following criticism of Black Ops 7’s AI implementation in November 2025, Activision stated that AI tools support their teams in creating gaming experiences. However, some players remain skeptical, questioning whether the image was truly a placeholder.
“Activision? Using AI slop for Call of Duty!? Surely there’s been some mistake; they would never,” joked one fan. “From a Style guide? How much AI was used in development and art?” asked another.
The possibility of visible AI-generated content in Modern Warfare 4’s beta this weekend remains uncertain, with fans anticipating further scrutiny upon the game’s October launch.
