Diagon alley revealed: leaked set reveals lavish hbo harry potter reboot
A major leak from the set of HBO’s Harry Potter TV series has surfaced, offering a first look at a significantly redesigned Diagon Alley. The video, published by The Sun and quickly spreading online, showcases a minute-long walkthrough of the elaborate set, sparking excitement and debate among fans.
New diagon alley: narrower, more grounded, and surprisingly different
The leaked footage reveals a Diagon Alley that feels less like a meticulously crafted film set and more like a genuine London alleyway. This is a departure from the wider, more fantastical depiction in the films. Notably, the new iteration is considerably narrower. While Gringotts Bank remains recognizable, it now occupies a leafy square, a notable shift from its previous settings.
The video also highlights a previously unmentioned establishment: AccioCoffee!, a barista spot sporting a magical neon sign. The level of detail is remarkable, hinting at a significant investment in recreating the wizarding world.
The source of the leak remains unknown, given the tight security surrounding the production, which has utilized codenames and primarily filmed at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studios. Filming commenced last summer, with glimpses of new scenes that deviate from both the books and films.
One of the most significant changes is that the series will not be told from Harry’s perspective, as in the original narratives. Instead, viewers will gain insights into Draco Malfoy's home life. Furthermore, the show will feature John Lithgow as Dumbledore meeting Nicolas Flamel, and Richard Durden reprising his role as Professor Binns in History of Magic.
Johnny Flynn will portray Lucius Malfoy, offering a backstory that expands upon his character before his introduction in the books and films. The first season is expected to introduce this element, providing a richer understanding of the wizarding world's societal complexities.
The eight-episode first season is slated for a 2027 debut. The reveal offers a compelling glimpse into the ambitious scope of HBO’s reimagining of the beloved franchise.
