Digi users targeted again by suspect phone calls
Romanian telco Digi has become a favorite target for hackers impersonating the company to dupe users into revealing sensitive data.

Sophisticated scam tactics emerge
Perpetrators are now using increasingly sophisticated tactics, making seemingly legitimate calls to customers claiming their plans have been changed or upgraded, with the goal of extracting payment information or convincing victims to switch providers.
Recent reports indicate that several Digi customers have received calls from unknown numbers claiming to be from the company, with the caller allegedly informing the recipient of a price hike on their fiber service - in some cases as high as 25 euros per month.
According to these fake calls, customers are warned that if they fail to comply with the supposed changes, they risk facing penalties of up to 300 euros. This scare tactic aims to prompt victims into taking action without verifying the authenticity of the call.
Digi has issued a strong denial of any involvement in such scam calls, stating that the company never initiates price changes or service updates via phone. Official communication from Digi, including changes to plans or notifications, are always delivered through secure, formal channels such as email, SMS, the company website, or social media.
Experts recommend that Digi users remain vigilant and exercise caution when dealing with unsolicited calls. If a suspicious call is received, it's best to hang up immediately and verify the authenticity of the communication through official Digi channels.
This latest wave of scams serves as a stark reminder of the importance of staying informed and taking proactive measures to protect personal information in the digital age.
