Disney revives peter pan with tinker bell series on disney+

Disney is charting a course back to Neverland, but this time the focus is on a diminutive heroine. The entertainment giant is developing a live-action spin-off series centered on Tinker Bell, the iconic fairy from Peter Pan, slated for release on disney+.

Tinker bell takes center stage in new disney+ series

The project, tentatively titled “Tink,” will offer a reimagined take on the beloved character. According to a report from Deadline, this isn't Disney's first attempt at bringing Tinker Bell’s story to the screen. A previous iteration of the idea, spearheaded approximately a decade ago with Reese Witherspoon attached to star, never materialized.

Gary Marsh, a veteran of Disney television, is now leading the charge on “Tink.” He previously worked on the earlier Witherspoon project. The series will be written by Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter, whose credits include shows like “Friday Night Lights” and “Only Murders in the Building.”

This move comes after a period of caution for Disney’s live-action adaptations. Several recent remakes underperformed, prompting a temporary pause. However, the massive success of Lilo & Stitch, which grossed over $1 billion at the box office in 2023, has clearly reignited the studio’s interest in revisiting its animated classics.

Other live-action projects in the pipeline include a new Moana film arriving in theaters on July 10, as well as remakes of Tangled, Hercules, and Bambi. A live-action sequel to Lilo & Stitch and a Beauty and the Beast spin-off starring Gaston are also reportedly in development.

Will this new venture successfully recapture the magic of the original Peter Pan story? Disney’s gamble on Tinker Bell suggests a renewed confidence in its ability to translate beloved animated properties into compelling live-action narratives.
