Druckmann drops cryptic clues: is the last of us part 3 on the horizon?
Neil Druckmann, co-creator of the critically acclaimed The Last of Usseries, has ignited a frenzy amongst fans with a seemingly innocuous Instagram post. A glimpse into his past, showcasing early sketches of Joel and Ellie, has morphed into a fervent debate: is Part 3 finally on the cards?
A garage cleanout, a spark of hope
The post itself is simple. Druckmann, cleaning out his garage, unearthed original sketches from 2003 – the genesis of the game pitch that would become The Last of Us. “Been a wild journey,” he wrote, adding the phrase that has sent the internet into overdrive: “Grateful for every part of it, especially the few stops that remain on the road ahead.” The ambiguity is, of course, the point. “Few stops?” Fans are parsing every syllable, convinced it’s a veiled confirmation of a third installment.
Naughty Dog, the studio behind the series, has remained tight-lipped. While Druckmann hasn't explicitly ruled out a Part 3 – he's previously alluded to a “one more chapter” in the story – the studio is currently consumed with other ambitious projects. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Druckmann's most expansive and expensive venture to date, demands his full attention. Shaun Escayg, previously behind Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, is directing another game with a smaller role for Druckmann, adding another layer of complexity to the timeline.
The speculation doesn’t end with the games. HBO’s The Last of Us television series, which Druckmann initially helped shape, is wrapping up its third and likely final season. While he’s no longer involved in the day-to-day production, the show's success has undoubtedly amplified the demand for a continuation of the narrative.

Beyond the hype: a legacy of hints
The “few stops” comment isn't entirely unprecedented. Naughty Dog’s documentary, The Last of Us: Grounded, concluded with Druckmann’s assertion that the story wasn’t finished. His words then, and now, suggest a desire to return to this world, albeit with a new concept – one he’s been diligently searching for. He previously described the potential sequel's concept as
