Final fantasy 7 remake part 3: rocket town, space, and a revolution in flight

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, slated for release 'not too far in the future,' will deliver a significant expansion of the game’s scope, according to director Naoki Hamaguchi. Expect new gameplay mechanics, unfamiliar locales, and a revamped Highwind experience that puts flight at the forefront.

Rocket town and beyond: a glimpse into the next chapter

Speaking with Bloomberg, Hamaguchi revealed that the team had to adjust plans for the third installment, trading locations like Wutai and Rocket Town with the previous game, Rebirth. This shift is largely due to Yuffie Kisaragi's prominent role and her quest to reclaim her homeland. “If Wutai isn’t featured, I think the fans are going to yell at me,” Hamaguchi quipped, highlighting the pressure to deliver on fan expectations.

The director also elaborated on the Highwind’s gameplay, promising a much more expansive and engaging flying experience. While details on Chocobo breeding remain elusive – “there is an element…that is a little different than Rebirth” – Hamaguchi hinted at a distinct take on the beloved creatures.

The narrative trajectory, he suggested, will likely pick up where Rebirth left off, setting the stage in the Great Glacier area. Hamaguchi also recommended players explore the indie title Esoteric Ebb, describing it as a blend of Disco Elysium, Dungeons & Dragons, and the absurdist humor of Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett.

The series’ expanded platform availability, including Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox versions of previous installments, has been well-received, though some community concerns have surfaced. Hamaguchi confirmed that the core game experience is nearing completion, with the team currently focused on refinement and polishing.

A familiar element returns: the Queen’s Blood card game will be a “powered-up” feature in the final chapter.
