Fraser battles back: ‘mummy’ 4 promises a long-awaited return
Brendan Fraser, looking visibly dedicated to a rigorous training regimen, confirmed his return to the iconic role of Rick O’Connell in The Mummy 4, admitting a period of uncertainty surrounding the project’s revival.
A decade of waiting, finally answered
Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fraser revealed a cautious optimism that had waned over the years, noting the staggered releases of subsequent Mummy installments. ‘I was hopeful for a long while, and then I was like, ‘No, I don’t know if they are,’ you know. Other Mummy movies got made and…’ he explained, a palpable sense of frustration evident in his tone.
However, the franchise is gearing up for a substantial reboot, with Fraser promising a return to the original locations and a renewed commitment to the action-adventure spirit of the classic series. ‘What we’re going to do is saddle back up, go back to the locations… I should probably stop talking like this because I don’t want to give everything away,’ he quipped, clearly eager to preserve the surprise.

A 57-year-old’s challenge
Despite the excitement, Fraser acknowledged the physical demands of the role, stating, ‘Please wish me luck. I’m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape.’ The project, slated for an October 15, 2027 release, reunites the core cast, including Rachel Weisz and John Hannah, signaling a definitive closing of the chapter on previous iterations that have largely stalled.
Rebuilding a legacy
The original Mummy trilogy – released between 1999 and 2008 – captivated audiences with its blend of horror and adventure, establishing Fraser as a global star. Yet, subsequent sequels failed to recapture that magic, ultimately diminishing the franchise’s box office performance. But now, the prospect of a fourth installment, spearheaded by Fraser, is generating considerable buzz, fueled by the prospect of revisiting beloved locations and delivering on years of fan speculation. The stakes are high – and Fraser is prepared to meet them head-on.
