FromSoftware Unveils Massive Elden Ring Update Packed with Balance Changes
FromSoftware surprised fans with a substantial update to Elden Ring, introducing a comprehensive list of weapon buffs and nerfs across the game’s PvE and PvP modes. The update, released today, marks one of the most significant changes to the critically acclaimed action-RPG in years, arriving as FromSoftware prepares for the launch of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 and accompanying DLC for other platforms.
Extensive Balance Adjustments
The patch notes, released on the Dark Souls developer’s website, detail a wide range of adjustments, with a noticeable emphasis on buffs. Several weapon types, including the Firespark, Lightning, Chilling, Frenzyflame, and Deadly Poison Perfume Bottles, received increased attack power. The Smithscript Axe and Spear, along with the Spear of the Impaler, also benefit from reduced stamina consumption and enhanced power for thrown attacks.

Key Updates and Changes
Other notable changes include increased guard boosts for the Lordsworn’s Shield, Briar Greatshield, Spiked Palisade Shield, and Wooden Greatshield, while the Cuckoo Greatshield, Redmane Greatshield, and Crucible Hornshield also saw guard boost improvements. Furthermore, the developer implemented improved parry performance across the board, reducing the delay for actions after a successful parry with daggers, curved swords, and small shields.
Nerfs and Bug Fixes
The update also includes nerfs to the Gravitational Missile and Great Katana. The former now avoids exploding upon impact with terrain, while the latter suffers from increased damage when struck by other players during an attack. Bug fixes related to the Great Katana weapon and a few PC-exclusive glitches were also addressed.
Looking Ahead
This update comes after a significant gap since the last lengthy patch notes, released in October 2024, following the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Elden Ring is still going strong, and FromSoftware continues to develop new projects, such as the potentially Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods, which has shown promise during its network test.
