Galaxy's peach & rosalina romance: miyamoto hints at deeper connection
Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto revealed a long-held, albeit vague, concept for the relationship between Princess Peach and Rosalina during the development of Super Mario Galaxy, a revelation now subtly explored in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Miyamoto recalls early discussions on peach and rosalina's bond
Speaking to Forbes, the legendary game designer recounted conversations with Yoshiaki Koizumi, the director of Super Mario Galaxy, about the cosmic connection between the two princesses. Koizumi, who famously penned the game's story in secret, and Miyamoto grappled with the nature of their relationship, aiming to imbue it with meaning that resonated with the game’s space-themed narrative.
The game itself left the origins of Rosalina shrouded in mystery, fueling fan theories about her closeness to Peach. Now, over a decade later, Miyamoto expressed satisfaction that the movie will finally offer more clarity. “We had a lot of discussion about this, but we never came to a conclusion. So we decided that let’s take this opportunity to give this idea some meat and get into the specificity of it,” Miyamoto stated, indicating a deliberate effort to address a persistent fan curiosity.
The revelation extends beyond the core Mario universe. Miyamoto also discussed the surprising inclusion of Fox McCloud from Star Fox in the movie, a decision that required some internal persuasion. Initially pitched by animation studio Illumination, Miyamoto felt a strong desire to see the character in a space setting.
