Grogu remains silent: mandalorian movie maintains core trait
Kathleen Kennedy, despite stepping down from her role at Lucasfilm, has revealed a significant detail about Baby Yoda – or Grogu – in the upcomingThe Mandalorian & Grogu film. The former head of the Star Wars division confirmed that the character will continue his largely mute nature, a trait fans had hoped he might overcome in his first big-screen adventure.
Grogu won't be speaking in the movie
Kennedy, speaking to Variety, stated that Grogu will “never say a word” on the big screen. While the 50-year-old character has demonstrably grown in his abilities with the Force throughout the Mandalorianseries, mastering Basic remains an elusive goal.
The revelation has sparked immediate reactions from fans online. One user on BookofDinGrogu expressed frustration, questioning the necessity of spoiling the film's details. “I’m furious. She didn’t had to say any of this,” the user wrote.
This isn't entirely unexpected. While the original Yoda was known for his distinctive, often baffling speech patterns, other members of his species, such as Yaddle, communicate normally. The decision to keep Grogu silent aligns with the established character arc of the Mandalorian, where his non-verbal communication has been a defining characteristic.
Dave Filoni, president of Lucasfilm’s Entertainment group, has positioned The Mandalorian & Grogu as the start of a “completely different era of Star Wars,” following the conclusion of the Disney sequel trilogy. However, the franchise's future remains somewhat nebulous, with only Star Wars: Dark Disciple currently confirmed beyond this year’s release.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to arrive on May 22. Prepare for more Force-fueled action, but don't expect any dialogue from the little green Jedi.
