GTA 6 Leaks: Beware of Malware, Not a Playable Build

Despite widespread claims circulating online, there is no downloadable and playable build of Grand Theft Auto 6 currently available on piracy sites. Recent leaks, originating from a leaker known as CyberLeek, have fueled a surge of fake news and misleading information.

False Downloads and Impersonators

Numerous users have impersonated CyberLeek on social media, and fabricated AI videos purporting to be new leaks have also surfaced. Download links to alleged GTA 6 builds are appearing on various pirating and torrenting sites, but experts strongly advise against downloading them due to their potential as malware.

“Every time GTA 6 makes headlines, leaked footage spreads through re-uploads, Discord links, and unofficial mirrors, which is exactly the environment where fake ‘leak’ downloads and credential-harvesting pages thrive,” said Marijus Briedis, CTO at NordVPN. “Fans looking for leaks or removed clips might land on unfamiliar sites, and in that moment they trust what they find. That’s the window attackers exploit.”

Precedent and the Leaker’s Identity

Precedent and the Leaker’s Identity

While the prospect of a GTA 6 build leaking is unusual, it’s not unprecedented. In late 2023, Insomniac Games was hacked, and a playable version of Marvel’s Wolverine appeared online. Interestingly, the leaker in the current GTA 6 situation has spelled out their name with bullets in-game within the leaked footage, suggesting possession of a working build.

Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not yet commented on the situation. Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to reveal its gameplay next week on August 27 via an event on Netflix, followed by a YouTube broadcast. The game is slated for release on November 19 for Xbox Series X|S and PS5.
