The film takes place 24 years before the original trilogy

Set during the Second Quarter's Reaping, 'Reaping the Harvest' occurs 50 years after the Games' inception and 40 years after Lucy Gray's 'Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' tale. This precursory chapter serves as a bridge between the eras we've seen on screen, offering insight into Panem's evolution post-Snow's rise to power and the competition's own growth.

New faces and familiar names join the cast

With a significant temporal leap, nearly everything viewers see is fresh, including the cast. Joseph Zada embodies the young Haymitch Abernathy, while Elle Fanning takes on Effie Trinket's role, albeit this time as an assistant stylist rather than the Capitol's district emissary. Glenn Close reprises her part as the formidable Drusilla Sickle. Mckenna Grace plays Maysilee Donner, Haymitch's original companion and the owner of the mockingjay pin later passed to Katniss.
