Johnny Knoxville Returns to Knoxville to Support Alma Mater
ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ guest picker Johnny Knoxville, born Philip John Clapp and previously known as P.J., recently returned to his hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee, to support his alma mater and contribute to its athletic facilities.
Knoxville Native Gives Back
The “Jackass” co-creator visited South-Doyle High School (now South-Doyle High School) to unveil a new weight room funded by specialty merchandise sales in partnership with Sorinex. Knoxville emphasized the community’s support, stating that over half of the funds came from Knoxville residents.

Early Career & Tennessee Affiliation
Knoxville, a proud native of South Knoxville, grew up near Neyland Stadium and publicly expresses his allegiance to the Tennessee Volunteers (Vols). He attended South-Young High School before moving to California and launching his career with the “Jackass” crew.

‘Jackass’ Stunt & Recent Return
A memorable 2000 “Jackass” episode featured Knoxville in a full Tennessee uniform attempting a return punt against USC, a stunt that highlighted his connection to the state. More recently, he returned to Neyland Stadium for a night game against Oklahoma, shouting “Vol nation, hello, my name is Johnny Knoxville.”
Continued Support
Knoxville remains friends with South-Doyle Athletics Director Randy Moore and the owners of Vol Market #3, and he has hinted at further ways to support his alma mater.
