Nacon's financial woes deepen as spiders gaming studio goes up for sale

Nacon's financial crisis has taken a dire turn with the announcement that its Spiders gaming studio is up for sale. The French company, behind RPG titles like GreedFall and Steelrising, filed for insolvency in February and has since been restructuring, impacting some of its development studios. Spiders, a 74-employee studio specializing in role-playing games, was listed on the Association Syndicale Professionnelle d'Administrateurs Judiciaires (ASPAJ) website as a company seeking a buyer. Bids are open until April 14, 2026, potentially altering the fate of its employees amid Nacon's mismanagement of its developer portfolio.

Spiders' profile reveals depth of crisis

ASPAJ, a French professional association of judicial administrators, manages and accompanies companies experiencing significant difficulties and restructuring periods. Spiders' entry on the ASPAJ website describes it as a company owning the Silk Technology engine and specializing in video game development. The studio has developed 10 games, including GreedFall, GreedFall: The Dying World, and Steelrising.

Nacon, despite its insolvency and dire studio situation, continues to operate in the gaming industry. It has released titles like Styx: Blades of Greed and GreedFall: The Dying World in 2026 and is supporting the production of Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss and serving as the distributor for Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish, set for 2027. However, the company has delayed its Nacon Connect event, originally scheduled for March, to an unspecified date in May due to its financial struggles.
