Nasa's artemis ii crew arrives in florida for historic lunar mission

NASA's Artemis II crew has landed in Florida, readying for the agency's first manned lunar mission in over 50 years.

Jeremy hansen of the canadian space agency and christina koch, reid wiseman and victor glover of nasa make up the core crew.

The quartet is joined by their backups - Jenni Gibbons, standing in for Hansen, and André Douglas, substituting for the NASA trio. Both the crew and their reserves remain in quarantine to avoid any potential contamination before liftoff.

The six astronauts continue to prepare meticulously, with the launch window set for April 2 at 00:24 CEST (UTC+2). If that date proves unsuitable, NASA has identified several alternative slots throughout the month.

Rise, the mission's mascot, makes its debut

In a heartwarming moment, the Artemis II crew introduced Rise, their plush lunar mascot. Designed by 8-year-old California student Lucas Ye, Rise won its spot from a global competition featuring over 50,000 submissions. The mascot's design is inspired by the iconic Earthrise photo captured during the Apollo 8 mission.

NASA has crafted Rise using strictly defined size and weight parameters, and the toy is made from flame-retardant certified materials for use in space.
