Netflix raises prices in us, second hike in over a year

Streaming giant Netflix has increased its prices in the United States for the second time in less than 18 months, sparking concerns about the future of its services in a highly competitive market.

Price hikes across all plans

The company has bumped up the cost of its Basic, Standard, and Premium plans, with the most significant increases affecting the Standard and Premium tiers.

The Basic plan with ads now costs $8.99 per month, up from $7.99. The ad-free Standard plan has risen to $17.99 from $15.99, while the Premium plan, which supports up to four concurrent streams, now costs $26.99, up from $24.99.

These price increases come just over a year after Netflix's last round of hikes, which saw prices rise by 10-15%. The latest changes represent an average 8% price bump across all plans.

For now, Spanish subscribers can breathe a temporary sigh of relief, as these price hikes only apply to the US market. However, as Netflix's global pricing strategy tends to mirror its US offerings, it's only a matter of time before the increases are replicated in other regions, including Spain.

With a 30% price increase over the past 14 months, consumers may start to reassess their Netflix subscriptions, particularly as the platform faces growing competition from other streaming services.
