Polyarc confirms major layoffs amid vr downturn

Reality VR has been struggling with severe issues, once touted as a fertile, virgin market with eager players invested in this new gaming perspective. However, the absence of heavyweight titles and high device prices have ultimately deflated the industry's future. Amidst PSVR2's descent into obscurity, Polyarc, one of the closest studios to PlayStation, has confirmed a significant wave of layoffs.

Polyarc has gained public and critical acclaim for its VR titles, particularly Moss and Moss: Book II, considered among the best VR experiences for both PSVR and PSVR2. The charming adventures starring Quill placed on par with other console exclusives like Astro Bot Rescue Mission.

But Polyarc's fortunes have taken a turn for the worse. Following the cancellation of a major project, leaving the studio without new funding, Polyarc has announced a major round of layoffs. In a LinkedIn post, the company thanked departing employees, acknowledging their creativity and dedication as key to the studio's success. However, the current adverse situation has led to this difficult decision.

'We made amazing games together, and we wouldn't have come this far without you,' the statement reads. Though the exact number of affected employees remains unclear, the post hints at a substantial impact.

As VR continues its downward spiral, Polyarc's struggles serve as a cautionary tale for the industry. The lack of support from Sony for PSVR2 has left the bulk of the weight on third-party developers, weakening the catalog and contributing to a growingly complicated context for studios like Polyarc.
