Rgg's stranger than heaven steals the spotlight with ambitious 50-year time-span and unique gameplay mechanics

RGG Studio has unveiled Stranger Than Heaven, its next major project, in a stunning 30-minute presentation at Xbox's showcase. This ambitious title takes an unprecedented leap forward in time, spanning an entire half-century, as protagonist Makoto Daito navigates his life from 1915 to the 1960s.

Makoto's journey through crime and show business

Following the loss of his parents, Makoto flees San Francisco for Japan, where he crosses paths with the notorious smuggler Orpheus, voiced by none other than Snoop Dogg. This encounter sets Makoto on a path of crime and power, leveraging his linguistic skills and cultural adaptability to rise through the ranks in Japan's criminal underworld.

As Makoto's ambitions grow, so does his involvement in the country's burgeoning Entertainment industry. He'll manage a band, collect sounds from around the world to compose original songs, and perform with a variety of instruments and musicians – a unique blend of combat and creative pursuits.

Dynamic combat and evolving world

Dynamic combat and evolving world

Stranger Than Heaven's combat system has been significantly overhauled compared to RGG's Yakuza series. Makoto's movements are now more grounded and precise, with distinct buttons for his body and limbs. This forces a more strategic approach, as players must consider the weight and positioning of attacks.

The game's world is similarly dynamic, shifting and growing as time passes. Makoto will travel to different cities, unlocking new mini-games and activities tailored to the era and location. The criminal underworld also offers a dangerous layer of exploration, with businesses and activities to discover.

Stranger Than Heaven is set for a winter 2026 release on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, with a day-one launch on Xbox Game Pass. With its captivating narrative, innovative gameplay, and star-studded cast, this game is poised to make a lasting impact on the gaming landscape.
