The League of Legends trading card game, Riftbound, is gearing up for its third major expansion, Unleashed, with a launch slated for April 10th in China and May 8th in the West. The new set promises to inject fresh mechanics, powerful Legends, and a revamped resource system, potentially reshaping the competitive meta.
Unleashed introduces ambush, hunt, and xp
Following the success of previous expansions, Origins and Spiritforged, Riftbound is expanding its tactical depth with Unleashed. The new set introduces the XP mechanic, a resource generated through abilities like the new Hunt ability. Units with Ambush can be played at Reaction speed, offering new offensive and defensive options. Hunt, the core of XP generation, will allow players to gain XP by conquering or holding battlefields. This XP can then be spent on various card effects, adding a layer of strategic planning not seen in previous releases.
New Legends and Token Focus. Unleashed will feature 12 new playable Legend cards, including highly anticipated additions like Diana, Scorn of the Moon, and Lillia, Bashful Bloom. Notably, Master Yi from the Origins Proving Grounds receives a new Legend card, making him the first character to have multiple iterations. Token cards also play a significant role, with new cards creating token battlefields and Reflections – copies of units already in play – promising more complex deckbuilding possibilities. The set also introduces an Ultimate Rarity, appearing in less than 1% of packs, with only one such card in the entire set: Baron Nashor.
The introduction of XP and the emphasis on tokens suggest a significant shift in Riftbound’s strategic landscape. Players will need to adapt to a new resource management system and consider the implications of token-based strategies. This could lead to a more dynamic and unpredictable metagame.
