Rockstar Games Doubles Staff for Grand Theft Auto 6, Hires Real-World Professionals
Rockstar Games has significantly expanded its workforce to develop Grand Theft Auto 6, doubling its employee count since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. The studio now boasts approximately 4,000 employees, a substantial increase from around 2,000 in 2018.
Expansion Includes Specialized Talent
This growth includes the establishment of a new Los Angeles-based office almost entirely dedicated to NPC development. Rockstar’s expansion isn’t limited to game developers; the company has also brought in external professionals like Miami-based stylist Jillian Carr, who is shaping the game’s fashion ecosystem to reflect Vice City’s diverse styles and cultures.

Fashion, Vehicles, and Street Art
Carr emphasized the importance of appearance in Vice City, citing social media, celebrity culture, and tourism as key influences. Rockstar has also enlisted racecar drivers to refine vehicle handling and recruited 50 street artists to design murals for the game’s map. These consultants are full-time employees, with Carr joining the team in 2023.
Gameplay Details and Netflix Reveal
New gameplay mechanics, including the impact of eating, working out, and sleeping on character attributes, are also being implemented. Rockstar will officially unveil Grand Theft Auto 6 tomorrow with an extended look on Netflix, promising a deep dive into the game’s mechanics and features.
