Schwarzenegger returns to iconic franchises: conan, predator, commando

Arnold Schwarzenegger, nearing 80, is poised for a remarkable resurgence in Hollywood. The action icon has revealed plans to reprise his most famous roles, including Conan the Barbarian, Predator, and Commando, signaling a busy period for the veteran actor.

Schwarzenegger revives action legacy with conan, predator, and commando sequels

Speaking at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, Schwarzenegger confirmed ongoing development of Conan 3, a new Predator film, and Commando 2. He mentioned discussions with Dan Trachtenberg, director of Predator: 1987, about a more substantial role in the upcoming Predator installment.

The Conan franchise has been in development limbo for years, cycling through titles like King Conan and The Legend of Conan. The new iteration reportedly picks up with an older, throne-sitting Conan, continuing the narrative from the original 1982 film and disregarding the 1984 sequel. Sources indicate Christopher McQuarrie, known for his work on the latest Mission: Impossible films, is writing and directing King Conan.

The prospect of a Commando 2 sequel is also gaining traction. While details remain scarce, the news comes as a surprise given the long gap since 1985's original. There was also a planned Twins sequel, titled Triplets, slated for release in 2024, but progress stalled following the passing of director Ivan Reitman.

The renewed interest in Predator is particularly noteworthy. Trachtenberg has previously expressed interest in bringing Schwarzenegger back, even considering a cameo for the actor's character, Dutch, in the 2025 Predator: Badlands. This suggests a serious commitment to integrating Schwarzenegger back into the Predator universe.

While past Conan sequels have faced numerous setbacks, the current momentum offers renewed hope for fans. Schwarzenegger's continued involvement in these franchises underscores his enduring appeal and influence on action cinema. The actor's return isn't just a nostalgia trip; it’s a testament to the lasting power of his iconic characters.

The sheer volume of these projects suggests a final burst of action from a career defined by it. At 80, Schwarzenegger is proving that the legend is far from over.
