Shogun 2 begins production with complete cast for disney+

After a two-year hiatus, the highly anticipated second season of the Emmy-winning period drama Shogun is finally gearing up for production, with the entire cast now assembled.

Expansion of the narrative and new faces

According to an exclusive report from Deadline, the show has bolstered its ensemble with several Japanese actors set to portray key political figures in the series' historical setting. Joining the returning leads are newcomers Risei Kukihara, Ryô Satô, Seishiro Nishida, Mantaro Koichi, and Takashi Yamaguchi, whose additions promise to expand the story's scope and ambition.

Additional fresh faces include Asami Mizukawa as Aya, Masataka Kubota as Hyūga, Sho Kaneta as Hidenobu, Takaaki Enoki as Lord Ito, and Jun Kunimura as Gōda.

The upcoming season picks up ten years after the events of the first installment, continuing the intertwined fates of Lord Yoshii Toranaga and Cosmo Jarvis, a European navigator whose strategic secrets proved pivotal in the war between the Shogun and the Regents.

While a release date has not been officially announced by the producers, with pre-production now underway, it's likely the series won't arrive on Disney+ until early 2027. The first season debuted in February 2024, so the creative team may be targeting a similar launch window for the sequel.
