Nicolas Cage’s latest cinematic dive into the Spider-Verse is setting its sights on an Emmy Award, a bold move for a period superhero series. Spider-noir aims for comedy recognition

Gold Derby exclusively reports that the series, set in 1930s New York, will campaign in the Comedy category. This is an unusual gambit for a show featuring action and a gangster narrative, potentially pitting Cage against established comedic forces like Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, and Shrinking. It also offers Cage a chance to compete for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series against performers such as Martin Short and Jason Segel.

Co-showrunner Oren Uziel describes Cage’s performance as “singular, deeply original,” highlighting the collaborative spirit of the project which boasts a strong ensemble cast including Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson. The series follows gumshoe Ben Reilly (Cage) as he navigates a shadowy underworld ruled by the gangster Silvermane (Gleeson).
