To accommodate the 150 original Pokémon designs, their moves, and the expansive Kanto region to explore, the developers had to get creative. One notable solution was the decision to have the player character remain stationary, while the in-game map would shift around them to simulate movement. This clever trick, born out of necessity, allowed the game to deliver an expansive, immersive experience despite the technical hurdles.

Other ingenious workarounds included abbreviating text in multiple languages to conserve memory, and cleverly using debug functions to free up space for the elusive Mew. These hacks not only showcase the resourcefulness of the developers but also demonstrate the pioneering spirit of early game design.
