Weir's blistering critique of star trek: 'all of them suck'

The galaxy of Star Trek fandom is experiencing a seismic tremor. Andy Weir, the celebrated author behind The Martian and Project Hail Mary, has delivered a scathing assessment of the franchise’s recent television offerings, declaring, with remarkable candor, that “all of them suck” – with a few, carefully chosen exceptions.

The comments, dropped during a recent appearance on the Critical Drinker podcast, have ignited a firestorm of debate among devotees of the original series and its subsequent iterations. Weir, who credits Star Trek as the initial spark for his own passion for science fiction, didn't mince words. He admitted to previously engaging in discussions with Paramount regarding a potential Star Trek series, a project that ultimately failed to materialize. It's difficult to discern the extent to which this unfulfilled venture influenced his current, rather blunt, assessment of the franchise's direction.

“I presented a series to Paramount and was on Zoom with all the showrunners, and spent a lot of time talking to [executive producer Alex Kurtzman],” Weir stated.
