Whatsapp streamlines interface, moves status updates to chat list

WhatsApp is undergoing a major redesign, simplifying its cluttered interface by merging the 'Status' feature with the chat list.

Unified experience, fewer tabs

According to WABetaInfo, the leading source for Meta's internal WhatsApp code, the latest beta versions for both Android (2.26.11.2) and iOS (26.14.10.70 through TestFlight) now feature this new layout.

Instead of a dedicated 'Status' tab, recent updates from contacts will appear as a horizontal row at the top of the chats list when you open the app.
