Wheel of time lives on: new adaptations brew after prime video cancellation
Despite its abrupt conclusion on Prime Video, the Wheel of Time saga isn't over. iwot Studios is resurrecting the epic fantasy series with a multi-platform expansion including animated series, feature films, and a mobile game, signaling a determined effort to capitalize on the enduring popularity of Robert Jordan's novels.

Animated future for epic fantasy
The news, revealed by Variety, stems from a partnership between iwot Studios, the IP holder, and Initiate Studios, a company spearheaded by Thomas Vu, known for his work on Netflix's Arcane and League of Legends. Vu envisions “fully authentic, integrated, interactive, and animated storytelling experiences” drawing on the mythology’s rich depth to fuel franchise growth.
The upcoming mobile game is slated for PC and mobile devices, aiming to expand the franchise’s reach. Meanwhile, the animated projects are targeted toward a younger demographic. iwot Studios clarified that Vu’s projects are distinct from previously announced films and a AAA RPG in development at iwot Games Montreal.
The original Wheel of Time RPG was announced last year as a sprawling open-world experience. iwot Studios recently secured a deal with Framestore, an AI-enabled platform designed to unify production across various mediums. Framestore will be the first IP to utilize this platform, hinting at a technologically advanced approach to the future of Wheel of Time adaptations.
The cancellation of the Prime Video series disappointed fans and Brandon Sanderson, who completed the series after Jordan's passing. Sanderson himself has seen success with his own Cosmere universe, currently being adapted by Apple TV.
The renewed interest underscores the power of enduring source material and the shifting landscape of Entertainment consumption. It is a testament to the loyal fanbase that refuses to let a cancellation define the story.
