X-men '97 expands animated universe with new comic series

Marvel Comics has announced an expansion of the X-Men '97 animated universe with a new five-issue comic series, titled X-Men '97: Season Two.

Comic bridges gap between animated series' seasons

Set to debut on June 3, 2026, the comic will pick up where Season 1 of the animated series left off, with the X-Men scattered across time and Forge attempting to assemble a new team. The main cover for issue #1, illustrated by Todd Nauck, suggests the fate of the missing mutants will be a central focus.

Written by Steve Foxe, with art by Salva Espin, X-Men '97: Season Two will explore how Forge and a few remaining X-Men, including Jubilee, Sunspot, and Bishop, work to rebuild the team. Foxe emphasized the importance of staying true to the wild cliffhanger ending of Season One.

The release of this comic may also indicate that Marvel is planning to debut Season 2 of the animated series around the same time. Fans eager to dive back into the X-Men '97 universe can preorder the first issue at their local comic shop.
