Yoshi gets a switch 2 game and a voice star!

Nintendo has dropped a delightful surprise for fans of the plucky dinosaur: a new Yoshi game is on its way, and it's coming to the Switch 2. But that’s not all – Donald Glover, known for his roles in Community and Star Wars, will be lending his voice to the iconic character.

Yoshi and the mysterious book arrives may 21st

The announcement, made today via the Nintendo Today app and social media to celebrate Mario Day (March 10th – a little nod to Mar10), confirms Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will launch on Thursday, May 21st. The game is a side-scrolling platformer exclusive to the next-generation console.

A newly released trailer offers a peek into the gameplay, introducing Mr. E, a talking encyclopedia filled with peculiar creatures. Players will guide Yoshi through the pages, observing (and consuming) the animals within. The gameplay involves feeding creatures different foods to create unique bubbles for Yoshi to ride, unlocking new discoveries and environments as the game progresses. And in a twist, Bowser Jr. is also set to make an appearance.

Yesterday's Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Super Mario Galaxy Moviealso revealed Donald Glover as Yoshi, along with Luis Guzmán as Wart and Issa Rae as the Honey Queen of Honey Hive Galaxy. The Direct also showcased footage of Bowser Jr. wreaking havoc in his own miniature fashion.

The trailer reveals that players can even name the species they discover—a detail that’s sure to delight dedicated fans. This new title promises a fresh adventure for Yoshi, blending familiar charm with new mechanics and a touch of unexpected chaos.

The release of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book alongside the Super Mario Galaxy Movie news signals a busy period for the beloved franchise. Nintendo is clearly leaning into nostalgia while simultaneously pushing forward with innovative gameplay experiences. The game's unique blend of exploration, platforming, and creature interaction positions it as a standout title for the Switch 2 library.
