Based on the legendary tales by author Robert E. Howard, Conan the Barbarian (1982) catapulted Schwarzenegger to stardom, cementing the actor's status as a cinematic legend. The original film's blend of action, fantasy, and swordplay made it a cult classic that inspired numerous sequels, spin-offs, and imitations.

However, the 1980s trilogy, which also included Conan the Destroyer (1984) and an aborted Conan the Conqueror, failed to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the character's epic journey. The character went dormant for over two decades until Jason Momoa's ill-fated 2011 reboot attempt.

Now, nearly three decades after Schwarzenegger last donned the character's infamous loincloth, the Governator is ready to unleash Conan once more. Speaking at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, Schwarzenegger revealed the film's premise:
