Thirty-three years after Martin Scorsese’s chilling adaptation, the dread of Cape Fear is returning to screens—this time via Apple TV+. The new series, also titled Cape Fear, promises a fresh wave of psychological terror, anchored by a powerhouse cast and the backing of industry titans.

A familiar story, a new descent into madness

Based on John D. MacDonald’s 1964 novel, the series revisits the harrowing tale of Anna and Tom Bowden, a married couple whose lives are shattered when Max Cady, a vengeful ex-convict they helped imprison, resurfaces. Javier Bardem, fresh off his role in Dune: Part Three, embodies the menacing Cady, a performance that, judging by the newly released teaser, suggests a captivatingly unsettling presence. The initial glimpse into the series, available here, hints at a relentless pursuit and escalating psychological torment for the Bowdens.
