Disney unearths 'tangled' live-action – spain to become storybook land
Forget Orlando; the magic is moving to Spain. Disney has confirmed a sprawling, eight-month shoot for its live-action remake of 'Tangled' will unfold across the Iberian Peninsula, marking what executives are calling the studio's longest shoot ever for a live-action adaptation.
A continent-spanning production
The ambitious project kicks off this summer at Ciudad de la Luz in Alicante, a state-of-the-art studio complex previously graced by the likes of Francis Ford Coppola and Ridley Scott. But Alicante is just the starting point. The production will then branch out, leveraging the distinct landscapes of the Valencia region, including the imposing Castillo de Santa Bárbara. The quest for fairytale authenticity continues further north, with locations secured in Girona and Burgos, the latter featuring the breathtaking Burgos Cathedral as a key visual anchor for the reimagined narrative.
The scale of this operation is significant. While Disney live-action remakes have become a reliable revenue stream, relocating a production of this magnitude—and duration—demonstrates a commitment to sourcing unique and visually arresting locations. This is not merely about replicating the animated film; it’s about crafting a new cinematic experience, leveraging the rich cultural tapestry of Spain.

Who's bringing the magic to life?
Behind the camera, Disney has assembled a pedigree team. Michael Gracey, known for his musical flair in films like 'The Greatest Showman' and the recent 'Better Man', directs. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, a seasoned Disney hand after her work on 'Thor: Love and Thunder', is penning the script. Teagan Croft steps into the iconic role of Rapunzel, while Milo Manheim embodies the charming rogue, Flynn Rider. Joining them is Kathryn Hahn, adding a deliciously wicked edge as Mother Gothel, the manipulative guardian who holds Rapunzel captive.
The sheer volume of locations, coupled with Gracey's penchant for elaborate musical numbers, suggests this 'Tangled' remake will be a spectacle unlike anything Disney has produced before. While a firm release date remains elusive, current projections place the film's arrival sometime between 2027 and 2028 – a considerable wait, but one that promises a truly immersive fairytale experience.
