James Cameron's sci-fi epic series seems to be taking a temporary pause, as the director hints at wrapping up the Avatar saga with the current installment, Avatar: Fire and Water. Despite the film's underwhelming box office performance, Disney remains committed to the franchise, with Avatar 4 and 5 still scheduled for release in 2029 and 2031, respectively.

Disney's ambitions for the avatar universe

Although Avatar: Fire and Water failed to match the astronomical success of its predecessors, it's far from a flop, having grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide. The higher-than-expected production costs, estimated at around $350 million, might have contributed to its relatively modest earnings.
