Netflix greenlights sequel to 80s anime classic city hunter

A surprise announcement from Netflix has sent fans of the 80s anime series City Hunter into a frenzy - a live-action sequel is on the way. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the streaming giant has given the green light to a follow-up to the 2024 film adaptation, which was based on the popular manga by Tsukasa Hojo.

Original series hailed as a crime-comedy classic

First airing in Japan between 1987 and 1991, City Hunter tells the story of Ryo Saeba, a private detective with a penchant for solving complex cases and wooing beautiful women. The original anime series was a huge hit, cementing the character's status as a cultural icon.

Star Ryôhei Suzuki will reprise his role as Ryo, with Misato Morita and Fumiko Kimura also returning as Kaori Makimura and detective Saeko Nogami respectively.

While few details have been released about the plot of the sequel, Suzuki expressed his gratitude to fans for their support and promised that the new installment would be the
