Forget the weeks-long wait; Crunchyroll will be the first to deliver the next chapter of One Piece. The Elbaf arc, a pivotal storyline involving encounters with the formidable Giant Warrior Pirates and the twin giants Dorry and Brogy, kicks off on April 5, 2026, with new episodes airing every Sunday. This marks a significant change from Toei Animation’s previous practice of releasing episodes without breaks or filler, a move now focused squarely on adhering to the canon of Eiichirô Oda’s manga.

The delay on Netflix is a direct consequence of Crunchyroll securing simulcast rights with Japan, meaning they’ll premiere episodes a week after the initial Japanese broadcast. While this might frustrate some viewers, it underscores the escalating competition for anime licensing and distribution.

A strategic shift: canon over filler

For years, One Piece fans have debated the merits of filler episodes, those standalone stories that don't advance the main plot.
