Warner dives back into middle earth with new lord of the rings film

Warner Bros. is doubling down on J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy world, announcing a new Lord of the Rings film just as production on The Hunt for Gollum heats up.

Helmed by Peter Jackson, the renowned director behind the original trilogy, the as-yet-untitled movie is based on the eighth chapter of The Fellowship of the Ring, 'Mist in the Barrow-Downs.'

Set 14 years after Frodo's departure from the Grey Havens, the story follows Sam, Merry, and Pippin as they attempt to recreate their epic journey, while Eleanor, Sam's daughter, uncovers a long-buried secret threatening the fate of Middle-earth.

The film will also introduce Tom Bombadil, a character cut from the original adaptation but featured in The Lord of the Rings video game series.

Stephen Colbert, set to leave his hosting gig at The Late Show, has been tapped to pen the screenplay alongside Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Fran Walsh, the latter two of whom worked on The Hunt for Gollum.

So, what does this new chapter hold for fans of Middle-earth? Only time will tell, but with Jackson at the helm and a talented team behind the scenes, expectations are high.
