Miku goes global: vocaloid superstar teams with grimes, slayr & more in ‘beyond borders’ ep

A seismic shift is coming to the world of Music, and it’s brought to us courtesy of Hatsune Miku. Dwango, in collaboration with Nebula17, is unleashing ‘Beyond Borders Vol.1: EMERGE MODE MIKU,’ a genre-bending EP featuring a dream team of artists including Grimes, slayr, and a host of other rising stars.

A vocaloid renaissance

This isn’t just another collaboration; it’s a calculated move to introduce Vocaloid Music to a brand-new audience. The project aims to capitalize on the existing, fervent fanbase while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of what’s possible within the digital singing world. It’s a bold strategy, undoubtedly, and one that’s already generating significant buzz.

The tracklist boasts a diverse range of sounds – from the experimental electronic pulse of VADAKIN (gracing the work of Grimes) and the hyperpop energy of Xansei (from XG), to the rap influence of MOLIY and the evocative soundscapes of Frost Children. There’s even a touch of Japanese flair thanks to the contributions of vocal producers like jon-Yakitori and picco.

Behind the boards: a grammy-caliber production team

But the talent doesn’t stop there. The EP is being meticulously crafted by an impressive roster of producers, including Grant Boutin (known for his work with Tate McRae), MOMBRU (a frequent collaborator of Fridayy), and the consistently innovative Byrd (who’s worked with Bad Bunny). Songwriting credits are equally weighty, with names like Charles “Scoot” Anderson (formerly of Ariana Grande) and Cecile Believe (from Charli xcx) lending their expertise.

Dwango’s General Manager, Gorokiyotake Orimoto, succinctly put it: “Vocaloid culture was born in Japan from the passion of producers making Music in their own bedrooms and on their own desktops, and now it’s taking flight on the global stage.” The project feels less like a marketing campaign and more like a genuine celebration of a unique creative ecosystem.

While a firm release date remains elusive – slated for fall 2026 – a series of singles will precede the EP, offering a tantalizing preview of the sonic tapestry to come. This is more than just a collaboration; it’s a statement.
