Bungie revamps recon shell in upcoming marathon patch 1.0.6

Bungie is giving Recon, one of the lower-tier characters in its sci-fi extraction shooter Marathon, a much-needed buff in the upcoming patch 1.0.6.

Better ping accuracy with echo pulse

Recon's prime (ultimate) ability Echo Pulse, which pings all enemies within a certain radius, will soon be able to distinguish between hostile UESC bots and enemy Runners. It will also be tougher to tell if you're in range of an enemy with Echo Pulse.

Improved tracker drone

Improved tracker drone

Tracker Drone, Recon's tactical ability that sends out an explosive spiderbot to chase hostile Runners, will get a much-needed buff as well. The bot will improve its tracking behavior, latching onto a different target if its initial one escapes its range.

These changes aim to make Recon a more appealing option for players, as the character has started to show limitations in high-difficulty raid-like instances. Echo Pulse was a non-factor in firefights where UESC and enemy Runners were mixed together, and the Tracker Drone often got stuck in pathing loops, rendering it useless.

For loyal Recon mains like one writer, these buffs can't come soon enough. While Recon has unique abilities like being able to ping enemy positions and track footsteps, a little more utility for the main abilities can go a long way. And with the added functionality, Recon may finally prove itself as a viable choice for players seeking a strategic playstyle.
