Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Beta Will Use Dual Matchmaking Systems
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s Beta will incorporate both a new matchmaking system and the existing open matchmaking system, a move intended to address previous community concerns about skill-based matchmaking.
New Matchmaking System Inspired by Black Ops
The new system, drawing inspiration from the original Black Ops games, aims for smarter team balancing, wider match variety, and a better experience for players of different skill levels. However, initial reactions have been mixed, with many players finding it less enjoyable than the previous open matchmaking system.

Open Matchmaking Previously Faced Criticism
The open matchmaking system, introduced with Black Ops 7 last year, was initially seen as a solution to complaints about overly aggressive skill-based matchmaking. However, data from Black Ops 7 showed that it led to increased quit rates, fewer kills per minute, lower win rates, and more ‘Not Fun’ ratings.
Beta Will Test Both Systems
Despite concerns, Call of Duty data indicates that player quitting rates decreased with the new system. The upcoming beta will utilize both matchmaking systems to gather further data and inform decisions for the full game’s release in October. There is currently no firm commitment on which system will be used in the final product.
