Call of duty's endgame lands in warzone – free for all
Activision just flipped the script on Call of Duty players. The highly anticipated cooperative extraction mode, Endgame, previously locked behind Black Ops 7’s notoriously criticized campaign, is now blasting into Warzone and going free-to-play for a limited time. This is a significant shift, removing a major barrier to entry and potentially revitalizing Warzone’s player base.
Avalon beckons: a new warzone experience
Endgame, built around the familiar Avalon map shared with Warzone, promises a distinct cooperative experience. Up to 32 players, divided into eight squads, can team up to battle enemies, unlock new weaponry, and accumulate progression points. This isn't just a reskin; Endgame introduces 'nightmare' abilities and wave-based combat, layering a fresh tactical dimension onto the Warzone formula.
The initial rollout was rocky, to say the least. Requiring players to first slog through Black Ops 7’s campaign—a move met with widespread disapproval—effectively sidelined a large segment of the community. Activision’s subsequent decision to unlock Endgame for all players was a clear acknowledgement of this misstep.

Combat rating gets a second chance
But the surprises don't stop there. Season 3 brings a substantial overhaul to the Combat Rating system. Previously, a squad member's death meant a complete loss of accumulated points. Now, Activision has softened the blow, capping point deductions per squad elimination at a maximum of 15. This subtle adjustment injects a newfound willingness to take risks, encouraging more aggressive gameplay without the crippling fear of total loss.
